to Anthony,
Dude, Milanese is in the style of Milan NOT Sicily!! Your "Milanese" sauce appears to be Sicilian especially with the addition of the pine nuts, fennel, and sugar.

The only thing i would question is the use of mushrooms?

Thanks for your comment Anthony. I'll try and do some research into a traditional Milanese sauce. I'm from New Zealand and not very Italian at all. I found this recipe which was labeled "Milanese". The ingredients you mention sound like a welcome addition Fennel, Pine Nuts, Garlic, Onions, Anchovies. I'll let you know when I find something more authentic and request your moderation.

This is not the Milanese sauce that my Sicilian grandmother used to make, nor is it anywhere near what my best friend's deceased Sicilian father used to make. Where is the fennel, pine nuts, garlic, onions, anchovies, tomato paste, salt, pepper, sugar and basil? Whoever came up with this recipe is not an Italian.
